Two Rings
(and I still have them both)
Like most other students, I received my class ring in my junior year at St. Albans High. Shortly after graduation in June 1969, a group of men and boys from our church went to Greenbow Lake in Kentucky for a weekend campout. There is a nice sandy beach on part of the lake, and we were having fun in swimming. All at once, I realized that my class ring was missing. We searched for several hours on the sandy bottom and could not find it. When I got home, my mom was very upset that I had lost my ring. She said that we just had to go to Bodies Jewelers on Main Street and order another one. We did and I left for Air Force Basic Training in August. While I was in Texas, my mom got a letter from the editor of the Ashland Kentucky newspaper about my ring. Someone had found it and the editor had called St. Albans High School to see who had the initials of “RAM” in the Class of 1969. They apparently gave him our address and he wanted her to confirm that it was my ring. He said that he would send it us. When I came home in December, I had two class rings, the old one that was in the lake and the new one that was ordered from Bodies.

The original was a blue setting with white gold and the new one was ordered with the red setting in white gold. A few years ago, I came across both rings and decided to wear one of them. The ring with the blue setting is now pretty well worn and the one with the red setting is almost like new.
